Blown Away!!

Hi all just a short note to say Thank You!

The Family and I have been just totally blown away by the response to the program and it’s not just the amazing generosity (nearly £8,500 donated in 3 days), but also the heartfelt messages that you have left on the blog and JustGiving pages.

In particular we just wanted to say to the many of you who have offered your assistance to the trust for sponsorship events etc. that your offers haven’t gone unnoticed and we will follow up just as soon as our feet hit the ground again, please bear with us.

We’ve taken a massive first step towards our goals in just these few days; I’ll be talking to the Hospice ASAP regarding the pain control equipment and have no doubt that (with 2.2 million viewers) we are already raising awareness of the vaccine.

Thank you

Pete x x

Thank you for letting us share in your brave journey and like so many others I watched through tear filled eyes. What a wonderful marriage you both so obviously had. I am a nurse working in HPV immunisation which I was passionate about before but am now even more so. I would like to help if I can and will try to think up ideas. It would be wonderful to offer immunisation clinics to older women (and men).
I wish you luck in your ambitions and future happiness in your stunning home. X

I have met Nikki at a common friend’s marriage and I am so sad of knowing what happend to her…I can say that in Italy (where I live) some regions (Emilia Romagna, where I live, is an example) grant a free screening (once every 3 years) for cervical cancer (better: hpv virus) to all women starting from 20-25 years old on . It could be helpful for those women who are above the age of 12-13 years old and have already started to have sexual activity. I wish you all the best in your ambitions.

I’ve just watched your truly inspiring story on Restoration Man following a number of my friends in Hull mentioning it last week. Although I don’t know you or Nikki, she was obviously a wonderful, warm, inspirational, brave and loving person and you were a true support and brilliant husband. The work on the Mill is beautiful and the way in which George told your story was moving, sensitive and a true testament to the love you and Nikki had for each other and the home you were building. I lost my youngest sister to cancer in 2010 and will be donating in support of her sister running the marathon (on that score she is a far better sister than I am, she must be mad running that far!!!). With every best wish to you and your families and I hope you find real comfort in your beautiful home you and Nikki so loving planned.x

Hi Pete, I’ve just seen the CH4 program and I wish you the very best for your future.

Your home is amazing and is a truly wonderful tribute to your beautiful wife.

I felt I had to write as I share many things in common with you, I’m in the IT industry, I’m of a similar age (39 on the 27th Jan if you want to send a card!) and I too lost my partner Linsey (37) to cancer on 31 July 2011. Whilst watching I felt what you felt, and I cried tears of joy and pain almost as much as you I’m sure.

Good luck mate, all the best to you and enjoy your home!! I’ll be keeping an eye on Nikki’s foundation which I’m sure will grow from strength to strength.

I saw Restoration was featuring a mill in Kent and refered to a book Watermills and Windmills of Kent owned by my Grandfather Norman Strickland ,a corn chandler from Hastings. He made many notations in the margin about the mills he visited in his early days with the firm . Of Reeds Mill , he wrote ” I did a little businessat this mill but it was in a most inaccesible place and I found the business not worth the trouble of going after” .
I watched the programme out of interest in the history . I was completely blown away by the story that unfolded and marvel at the strength of Peter and Nikki ‘s relationship. She was a lady ,I would have been honoured to know . She could be proud of the end result. God bless

Hi to Pete and Nikki’s family. I had been told about your programme and warned against watching it as I lost one of my best friends to cancer in October 2010, however I simply had to watch and I was confronted with a girl as beautiful and brave as my darling friend. The similarities are uncanny and we too live near Canterbury and her final resting place is Barham near to where you live. All I can say is what a wonderful husband and family she has left behind as well as a truly beautiful building. Live and love in it Pete in her memory and I have a lovely vision of my 29 year old friend meeting your wife and sharing a bottle in a pain free world for them both. xx

    hi Pete,

as i watched the program unfold on your beautiful project, looking forward to the end result, the outcome could not have been more poignant, as i lost my younger sister Claire to breast cancer on 25.08.11. She was 38.
she too had been batteling cancer for 7 years.she left behind husband Sean and unfortunately had no children.
I hope you manage to find happiness in the home you planned together, and i hope that Nikki and Claire have found peace together as the amazing and brave women they were.

    Hi Pete
Have just watched restoration man. Have been totally moved by the courage and determination by Nikki and yourself.
Through such sadness you have continued to build on your dream home. Nikki must be so very proud of you and your families to be able to achieve such a fantastic house. Of course you must have many mixed emotions as you reflect on the last year.
I had to read Nikki’s blogg and was humbled by her cheery nature. Also praise to George for covering your dream home with heartfelt compassion.
Couldn’t help but be moved to tears of sadness and joy
Wish you and your families well and comfort that Nikki is no longer suffering.

It was strange to watch the program having not seen Peter for so long. I never met Nikki but she now almost feels like a friend too (I hope that’s OK). The love and support from everyone there, given with such dignity, was very moving. Best of luck with the trust, you have reached out to a lot of people already. (And the mill is a masterpiece!)
